Abstract

1,147,102. Pulse generating circuits. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 29 Dec., 1967 [17 Jan., 1967], No. 2511/67. Heading H3P. [Also in Division H2] Pulse generating apparatus comprises a plurality of electrodes 19-27 spaced apart to form a series of air gaps, the electrodes being interconnected by a number of resistors of equal value so as to provide between adjacent electrodes a potential difference which is insufficient to cause flashover breakdown of the air gaps, the even numbered and the oddnumbered electrodes being interconnected by two capacitive networks. In operation the electrode 19 is connected to a charging resistor 28 and the electrode 27 to a wavetail resistor 29 whilst the electrode 26 is connected to terminal 30 by way of a capacitor 31. A pulse applied to terminal 30 charges capacitor 31 after which closure of a switch 32 discharges the capacitor and causes flashover breakdown of the spark-gap assembly. The discharge time constant of the apparatus is dependent upon the resistor 29.
