Abstract

1,146,691. Induction heating. BEANWY ELECTRIC Ltd. 30 March, 1966 [30 Dec., 1964], No. 62770/64. Heading H5H. Apparatus for sealing, serrating or cutting thermoplastic sheet material comprises a magnetizable wheel 1 fast on a driving shaft 2 heated by a stationary induction unit comprising a concentric multiturn coil 5 in a magnetizable carrier 4, located on one side of the wheel. The 1.f. coil 5 is mounted within an annular recess 6 in an iron or steel circular plate 4 within which the shaft can freely rotate. The coil may be placed on the other side of the wheel and be mounted in a cup-shaped member or in the recess of an E-shaped laminated core. The wheel is removable from the shaft and is provided with a knife, rounded or toothed edge for cutting, sealing and serrating respectively. A thermocouple 8 connected in the coil circuit limits the wheel temperature.
