Abstract

1,146,256. Storage heaters. G. BAUKNECHT ELEKTROTECHNISCHE FABRIKEN G.m.b.H. 7 July, 1967 [8 July, 1966], No. 31417/67. Heading F4U. In an electric storage heater of the type in which the maximum core temperature is determined by an adjustable thermostat which also receives heat from a control heater controlled in accordance with the temperature outside the space to be heated, at least two heating elements are provided and a temperature-sensitive switch arranged to be heated by the control heater is connected in series with one of the elements. Thus, when the outside temperature is above a predetermined minimum and the control heater is energized to reduce the maximum core temperature, the switch opens to de-energize its associated heating element. As shown, three core heating elements 2, 3, 4 are connected in parallel and are energized via a thermostatic switch 16 which receives heat from the core via a metallic heat conducting bridge 17. Elements 3 and 4 are in series with respective bimetal switches 7, 8 which are arranged to receive radiant heat from control heaters 11, 12; heat from the latter is conducted to switch 16 via metallic bridges 18a, 18b, 18. Heaters 11, 12 are respectively energized by the contacts 15b, 15c of a temperature senser 15 mounted on the outside of an exterior wall AM. In operation, both contacts 15b, 15c are closed at outside temperatures greater than 5‹ C., switches 7 and 8 are open and the core is heated to a relatively low final temperature by element 2 alone. At temperatures between - 10‹ and +5‹ C., only contact 15b is closed and the core is heated to an intermediate temperature by elements 2 and 4. Below - 10‹ C., both contacts 15b, 15c are open and the core is heated to a relatively higher temperature by all three elements.
