[Also in Division A5] A vehicle of the type described in Specification 1,083,896 (i.e. having a concave depression 26 on one surface) is produced by a method including forming a gelatinous body incorporating the medicament and a volatile solvent, e.g. water, and then drying the body at a temperature such as will not destroy the medicament. According to one embodiment (Figs. 1-5, not shown), capsules (19) are formed in known manner by pitted rollers (12), (13), are washed, and are coated on one hemisphere with an impervious layer 25. On being dried, solvent 17 migrates through pervious wall 22 which collapses to form a depression 26, solid medicament permeating into wall 22. Alternatively, the two hemispheres are dried differentially to obtain the same result; or the body may be moulded directly to the desired shape and then shrunk; or (Figs. 17-19, not shown) two superposed gelatine layers (44), (47) are formed by extrusion, dies (48), (49) stamp out disc-like bodies (50) which are dried, and since each layer contains different medicaments and solvent contents, one shrinks more than the other. Medicaments.-A list is given, including hormones (e.g. insulin, contraceptives), local anaesthetics (e.g. lignocaine hydrochloride), adrenaline, amphetamine, diuretics, analgesics, cardio-vascular reactants, labour-inducing compounds (e.g. oxytocin), antihistamines, diagnostic agents (e.g. radioisotopes), and Vitamin B 12 . Treatment can be discontinued as soon as the desired effect (e.g. labour) has been induced.
