Abstract
1,145,642. 6-Keto-#<SP>7</SP>-steroids. F. HOFFMANN-LA ROCHE & CO. A.G. 9 Sept., 1966 [24 Sept., 1965; 24 March, 1966], No. 40401/66. Heading C2U. Steroids of the partial Formulµ (Ia) and (Ib) are prepared by treating a steroid of the partial Formula (II) with a base, and, when the steroid of the partial Formula (Ib) is required, reacting the steroid of the partial Formula (Ia) thus obtained with iodine and a silver salt AgOAc in an aqueous carboxylic acid AcOH (wherein R is an organic sulphonic acid acyl group and Ac is a C 1-6 aliphatic or halogenated aliphatic carboxylic acid acyl group). Steroids of the partial Formula (Ia) which contain in the 17-position one of the groups -COCH 3 , -CH(CH 3 )(CH 2 ) 3 CH(CH 3 ) 2 , -CH(CH 3 )- CH = CHCH(CH 3 )CH(CH 3 ) 2 and -CH(CH 3 ) (CH 2 ) 2 COOZ, where Z is H or -CH(CH 3 )CHO in free or functionally modified form, are novel. Steroids of the partial Formula (II ) are prepared by sulphonic acid acylation of the corresponding 3#-ols, themselves prepared by hydrolysis of their acetates.
