Abstract

1,145,433. Insecticidal baits in foam form. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 26 Sept., 1967 [24 May, 1967], No. 43790/67. Heading A5E [Also in Division C3] An insecticidal bait consisting of a non- thermoplastic hydrophilic polyurethane foam containing uniformly embedded in the cell framework thereof an insecticidal carbamate and/or phosphoric acid ester and an insectluring substance, is produced by forming a mixture of the insecticide, the luring substance, a hydrophilic polyol or a non-hydrophilic polyol and a hydrophilic additive (e.g. silica gel or sugar), a polyisocyanate and an activator, and then foaming the mixture. Optionally, an insect-attracting colouring matter, such as a red, violet or black colouring material, is present. Specified insect-luring substances are sugars, yeasts and powdered egg or milk. In examples, the polyurethane foams are obtained from ethylene oxide/ propylene oxide/glycerol polyether (polyol), toluylenediisocyanate, trimethyl - 2 - silamorpholine and tin-octoate (activators), water (foaming agent) and a polyethersiloxane (stabilizer); and the insecticides used are 0,0- dimethyl - (1 - hydroxy - 2, 2, 2 - trichloroethyl) - phosphonate, 2 - methyl - coumaran - 7 - yl - N - methyl - carbamate and 0,0 - dimethyl - 2, 2- dichlorovinyl phosphate.
