Abstract

1307058 Seed cultivation in foam bodies SEMPERIT AG 23 Sept 1971 [1 Oct 1970] 44355/71 Heading A1E [Also in Division B8] Grass is cultivated in polyurethane foam mats. Small pieces of polyurethane foam are mixed with grass seed and a bonding agent. The mixture is then moulded to the shape required - preferably a sheet of thickness 0.5-2.0cm. A hydrophilic substance, e.g. cellulose fibres, chalk &c, may be added to achieve a high water absorptivity. Flowers and vegetables may also be cultivated in this way. The mechanical strength of the polyurethane foam allows the turf to be sold as rolls very soon after cultivation.
