Abstract
1,144,959. Automatic railway vehicle couplings. BREDA FERROVIARIA S.p.A. 17 May, 1967 [21 May, 1966], No. 22880/67. Heading B7T. A Willison coupling head comprises a slidable lock 1 urged by springs 10, 11, a duplex engager 2, 3 pivoted at 13, 14 and engageable by the other coupling head, and a safety catch 20 having a tooth 23 which engages an aperture 24 to prevent by piece 29 retraction of the lock 1 while the heads remain coupled, a control handle being actuated to uncouple the heads by rotating a shaft 4 carrying cams 8 and 9, 6 which respectively retract the lock 1, and raise the catch tooth 23 from the aperture 24; a further cam 7 on the shaft 4 is engaged by rotating the shaft the other way, with the engager 2, 3 at 19 so as to disengage a pin 25 from a recess 32 in the lock 1, to cancel the uncoupled condition of the head. The pin 25 on the engager 2, 3 impedes retraction of the coupled lock 1 by engaging a surface 26, but engages the recess 32 to hold the uncoupled lock retracted. The parts 2, 3 of the engager are biased apart by a spring 17 and gravitybiased so that the part 2 projects from the head when uncoupled.
