Abstract

1,144,927. Stud and socket fastenings. F. T. PRODUCTS Ltd. 4 Sept., 1967 [9 Sept., 1966], No. 40429/66. Heading E2B. A spring stud comprises a head 12 and a shank 11, the shank comprising two integral resilient limbs 13, 14 which are joined at the tip of the shank and a pair of tongues 22, 23 one in each limb adjacent the head and a pair of lugs 20, 21 one in each limb adjacent the tip of the shank, wherein the tongues and the lugs are inclined outwardly of the shank and towards the head of the stud and the distance between the ends of the lugs is substantially less than the distance between the ends of the tongues and the external surfaces of the limbs are uninterrupted between the lugs and tongues. In the construction shown the portion of each limb lying between the lug and the tongue is bowed concavely to the axis of the shank about an axis parallel to the axis of the shank. The stud is used with a plate 26 having a dished portion 26a and which has a circular aperture located centrally of the dished portion for securing a fibre glass insulation mat 24 to a support panel 25, the stud passing through a circular aperture 27 in the support panel with the head bearing against the outside of the panel and the tongues 22, 23 snapping back behind the panel to retain the stud loosely in the aperture. The mat 24 is then forced over the tip of the stud until it is seated against the panel 25, after which the plate 26 is passed over the tip 15 of the stud, flattening the mat 24 against the panel 25, until the lugs 21, 22 snap through the aperture 28 to attach the plate to the stud.
