A solvent composition comprises, by volume, from 50-80% methyl chloroform; 20 to 50% of a fluorohaloethane having 2 to 4 fluorine atoms and the remainder of the valences of carbon atoms being satisfied by bromine or chlorine atoms, or mixture thereof; and as stabilizer from 0-10% of 1,4-dioxane, a secondary or tertiary alcohol, nitromethane, an epoxide having from 4-6 carbon atoms or a mixture thereof. The preferred fluorohaloethane is 1,1,2.2-tetrachlorodifluoroethane
