Abstract

1,162,285. Stabilization of chlorinated hydrocarbons. FMC CORP. 20 July, 1967 [21 July, 1966; 2 March, 1967], No. 33297/67. Heading C5D. Chlorinated hydrocarbons are stabilized by the addition of a lactam having up to 7 carbon atoms. Most preferred amount of lactam is 0À1 to 1% by weight based on chlorinated hydrocarbon, and the specified lactams are y-butyro, Y-valero and capro lactams. An epoxide and/or alcohol may also be incorporated in the composition. Preferred epoxides are those having 3-12 carbon atoms and their amount in the composition may be from 0À1-0À5% by weight of chlorinated hydrocarbon.
