Abstract

1,144,520. Detecting knots in yarns S. PEYER. 1 Sept., 1967 [6 Sept. 1966], No. 40168/67. Heading D1F. In a device for indicating and/or recording the occurrence of knots in a travelling strand such as a yarn or cord and perhaps for arresting yarn travel or the machine in which yarn is being processed, deflection of a ferromagnetic member from a sensing position normally maintained by a permanent magnet field causes a change in the field which induces current surges or pulses in an inducton coil magnetically coupled therewith. In the device shown, yarn 6 passes through a gap 38 adjustably formed between a cylindrical stop member 22, which is eccentrically mounted on and secured to a fixed pin 20, and a U-shaped sensing bow 36, pivotable between stops 46 about the axis of captive ends in a groove 30 in a cylindrical member 28 but normally maintained in the position shown by the bevelled edge of an iron core 42, a part of which is surrounded by a permanent magnet 40. The passage of a knot 8 deflects member 36 and the resultant change in flux linkage induces in a coil 44 current surges which, or preferably only the surge due to the restoring movement of member 36, are amplified at 50 and recorded on a counter 52 and/or operate a relay 54 to initiate a stopmotion (not shown).
