Abstract

1,144,320. Pyrolytic carbon; carbon coated thoria. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. 13 March, 1967 [5 April, 1966], No. 11766/67. Heading C1A. [Also in Divisions C7, F4 and G6] Carbon is deposited on sol gel ThO 2 or UO 2 particles of 250-350 micron size forming the bed of a fluidized reactor (see Division F3-F4) heated externally to between 1745-2250‹ C.and using methane as the coating gas. Initially the apparatus is purged with argon or other inert gas which may be used to dilute the hydrocarbon.
