[Also in Division A2] A method for processing food or other material subject to microbiological spoilage comprises processing and packaging sterilized material under substantially sterile conditions at a temperature not exceeding 8‹ C., and subjecting the packaged material to a pasteurization treatment. The processing may include packaging, mixing, cutting, comminuting, emulsifying, ripening, churning, homogenizing. and storing under special conditions. The packaging of fresh whole milk, homogenized whole milk and skim milk is exemplified. Other materials specified are medical bandages and preparations, vegetable juices, rice, meat and sauces.
