Abstract

1,142,752. Eyes. INSTITUT FUR FORDERTECHNIK LEIPZIG. 9 Jan., 1967, No. 1168/67. Heading D1T. In Figs. 1 and 2 the steel wires 3 have been wrapped around an eye or thimble 4, bound below the eye or thimble 4 with binding wires 6, and provided with a rubber cover 2. Vulcanised into the rubber cover 2, below the eye or thimble 4 is a rigid bar 1 with its ends flush with the outer surface of the cover 2. If the cable is overloaded such that the binding wires 6 are broken the eye 4 changes shape and the ends of the rigid bar 1 will no longer be flush with the outer surface of the cover 2 thus indicating that the cable has been damaged. In Fig. 4 (not shown) there is a window in the cover 2 below the eye or thimble 4. Behind the window is an indicator member. If the binding wires 6 break, the cover 2 and the window stretch, the increase in size of the window uncovering coloured marks on the indicator member.
