Abstract
1,142,548. Oxidation of isobutane. ATLANTIC RICHFIELD CO. 30 Aug., 1967 [10 Oct., 1966], No. 39761/67. Heading C2C. In a process for the liquid phase oxidation of isobutane with molecular oxygen at elevated temperature and pressure, the charge stream contains at least 97% by weight of isobutane and less than 3% of normal butane and propane. The main reaction products are tertiary butyl hydroperoxide and tertiary butanol; the oxidation is carried out at 300-700 p.s.i.g. and 200-300‹ F., preferably in the absence of a catalyst.
