Abstract
1,142,445. Monoazo dyes. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 3 Nov., 1967 [28 Nov., 1966], No. 50115/67. Heading C4P. The invention comprises monoazo dyes of general formula wherein R and R<SP>1</SP>, which may be the same or different are CH 3 , NO 2 , Cl, Br, CN, CF 3 or C 1 -C 4 alkyl-sulphonyl radical, p is 0 to 3, R 2 is H, alkyl, alkoxy or halogen, R 3 is H, alkyl or alkoxy, and R 4 is optionally substituted alkyl, e.g. -(CH 2 ) n OCOR 5 , -(CH 2 ) n OH, -(CH 2 ) n COOR 5 or C 2 -C 4 -alkylene-X wherein X is CN, halogen, alkoxy or OCOOR 5 , n is 3 to 5, and R 5 is an optionally substituted C 1 -C 4 alkyl group. They are prepared by diazotization and coupling. The dyes give yellow, orange, red, pink, brown, scarlet and violet shades on hydrophobic materials, e.g. polyethylene terephthalates, polyamides, polyacrylonitrile and cellulose acetates.
