1,142,354. N - Methyl - N - methoxymethyl urea derivatives. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 26 May, 1966 [4 June, 1965], No. 23528/66. Heading C2C. [Also in Division A5] The invention comprises N-methyl-N-methoxymethyl urea derivatives of formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is a mono-, bi- or tri-cycloaliphatic radical or a phenyl radical which may be substituted by one or more C 1-3 alkyl, fluorine, bromine or alkoxy substituents, or a -CF 3 or halophenoxy substituents or a halogen atom and one or more of the above mentioned substituents and R 2 is H or CH 3 . The compounds are prepared by (i) reaction of appropriate cycloalkylamines or substituted anilines with N-methyl-N-methoxymethylcarbamyl halides in an inert solvent or diluent and in the presence of acid-binding agents or (ii) reaction of the corresponding N-methyl urea derivative with HCHO and CH 3 OH in the presence of, e.g. Ba(OH) 2 , as catalyst. N - Methyl - N - methoxymethylcarbamyl halides may be prepared by reaction of N- methyl-N-chloromethylcarbamyl halides with methanol or an alkali metal methylate.
