Novel 3-acyloxy alkyl-oxazolidines of the formula where R 1 is C 1-12 alkyl, cyclohexyl, or phenyl optionally by C 1-4 alkyl, R 2 is hydrogen, C 1-12 alkyl, cyclohexyl, phenyl optionally substituted by C 1-4 alkyl, or is allyloxymethyl, phenoxymethyl or C 1-12 alkyloxymethyl, and R 3 is hydrogen, C 1-12 alkyl, or cyclohexyl, are prepared by reacting a bicyclic amide acetal of formula in the liquid phase at temperatures from 10‹ to 150‹ C. with an aldehyde of formula R 3 -C(O)H, the reactants being used in equimolar amount or the more volatile compound being present in excess.. An inert solvent may be present. The products are useful as solvents and intermediates.
