Abstract

114,226. Smith, A., and Southall, C. April 21, 1917. Packing and filling granular and like materials into receptacles.-In machines comprising a vertically movable support for a receptacle and a feed screw or plunger for the material, the clutch for the feed screw or plunder is controlled by mechanism of the following character. The support-a is arranged to operate cams g, f, and on the upward movement of the support, the clutch is closed by a lever h, operated by the cam g, and is locked by a lever l which is released on the downward movement of the support by the cam f, a spring then causing the clutch to open. As shown, the support is geared to a pinion a<1> provided with a cam or roller g, and the cam f and the lever h engages a rod i connected to the clutch lever j. The returning-spring k is arranged on the rod, and the locking-lever is adapted to engage a boss m on the rod. A hand-lever p and a counterweight o are provided for operating the support.
