Abstract

1,142,039. Textile treating apparatus; feeding flock. BESNIER-FLOTEX. 15 Dec., 1966 [29 Dec., 1965; 20 Jan., 1966], No. 56257/66. Heading D1L. A method of distributing fibres in which the passage of the fibres through a screen is assisted by a plurality of uniformly-spaced brushes moving relative to the screen, also comprises the steps of applying the brushes over the entire width of the screen and feeding a measured quantity of said fibres successively to each brush. A preferred form of apparatus for effecting the method comprises a hopper 21 having a metering device 27 rotating in the outlet thereof; the distributor device comprises a conveyor chain 20 carrying a plurality of brushes 11 and receptacles 25 for the measured quantities of fibres from the device 27: The chain is motor-driven through a variable speed reduction gear 17 which also controls the speed of rotation of the metering device. The conveyor chain is disposed in a tank 30, the lower wall of which is constituted by a screen 15 mounted on slides 16, the brushes 11 contacting the screen 15 during movement of the chain. The chain is made up of articulated links 21, one brush being disposed in the centre of each link at an angle between 80‹ and 85‹ to the plane of the link in the direction opposite to the direction of movement of the chain. The receptacles 25 are preferably made of elastic material, the walls of the receptacle being at an angle of 120‹ to the base. The fibres passing through the screen 15 preferably then pass through an electrostatically charged grid 19. In an alternative embodiment, the base of the receptacle does not extend the full distance between adjacent brushes so that fibres may fall freely through the chain, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown). In a still further embodiment, the receptacle has only one end wall. In further modifications, two such receptacles are disposed between adjacent brushes, in one the walls of the two receptacles are disposed adjacent the brusnes, and in the other the receptacles are reversed. Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown).
