Abstract

1,141,678. Tyre-building apparatus. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. 7 June, 1966 [11 June, 1965], No. 25304/66. Heading B7C. In tyre-building apparatus, inflatable ply turn-up diaphragms 13 are each secured to axially-spaced sets of supports 18, 20 operable respectively (a) to grip carcass plies 11 between the diaphragm and an associated bead ring 12; and (b) to roll the inflated diaphragm about the bead ring so as to turn up the ply ends. The support 20 comprises arms which as shown in Fig. 2 are pivoted at 33 to allow radial movement of the axially-inner end only of the arms on inflation of an annular tube 34. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown) the arms are kept parallel to the diaphragm axis by radial arms (35a) slidingly mounted in a flange 32.
