The invention comprises #-phenylethylisothiocyanates of the formula: where R represents Cl, I, CH 3 , CH 3 O or N0 2 . They may be obtained by reacting a compound of the formula with thiophosgene in an organic solvent immiscible with water, in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide and in an inert gaseous medium. Examples are given for the production of the compounds.
