Abstract
1,141,058. Supports for electrical conductors. McNEIL CORP. 3 Oct., 1966 [8 Oct., 1965], No. 44141/66. Heading B7L. A support assembly M for an electric conductor rail A for railway vehicles, comprises two identical insulator members of epoxy resin reinforced with fibreglass, each member receiving one of the flange portions 24, 25 of the rail A between e.g. a flange 54 and a surface 53 so as to allow thermal expansion sliding of the rail A, and each member having flanges, e.g. 70<SP>1</SP>, interlockingly engageable in grooves 72 and 73 in the other member, and the members being releasably secured together by bolts 77, 78. In the embodiment shown, the rail is supported on the surfaces 53, but in another embodiment (not shown) the rail is supported in an inverted position suspended from overhead support means. The surfaces 53, 53<SP>1</SP> and the flanges 54, 54<SP>1</SP> are curved or doubly bevelled longitudinally of the rail A. Each assembly M is located by its legs 57, 57<SP>1</SP> between ridges 88, 89 formed along the edges of an aluminium bracket N, and is secured by bolts 61, 62 to a railway tie. Protector boards F, G are secured to the inside or outside of bracket N, and an insulating plate 94 is provided. The rail A comprises sections connected end to end by splice plates B, C, bolts, and dished spring or Belleville washers, each section comprising a steel rail part H engageable by the collector D and an extruded aluminium rail part K, the parts being secured together by aluminium rivets 30 or bolts.
