The space between a column 2 of a pontoon 1 and a guide for the column is eliminated by pressure members 3 and 3' movable from a retracted position to an operative' one between the guide and the column, pressure members 3 and. 3' being moved respectively by wedges 4 and 4', each wedge being adapted to swing about an . axis at right angles to .the direction of movement of the. wedge. A number of wedges may be operated differentially from a central point.
