Abstract
1,140,573. Fluid-pressure brakes. GIRLING Ltd. 2 March, 1967 [15 March, 1966], No. 11310/66. Heading F2F. In an hydraulic braking system for a road vehicle employing a tandem master cylinder 1, one outlet from which feeds the front wheel brakes via an auxiliary cylinder 3 equipped with a booster 4, through lines C, D, F, while the other outlet feeds the rear wheel brakes through a separate brake circuit, the same booster 4 employed for the front wheel brake circuit is used to boost the rear wheel brake pressure by inserting a device 6 in the lines A, B to the rear wheel brakes and coupling it to the line F leading to the front wheel brakes, the device 6 consisting of a cylinder body 7 containing a piston 16 which, when subjected to front wheel brake pressure at inlet 9 overcomes a spring 17 and moves a valve member 13 to close a passage between inlet 8 (from line A) to outlet 12 (to line B), after which front wheel brake pressure is transmitted via the piston 16 to the rear wheel brakes.
