Abstract

[Also in Division F4] A vehicle body or a transportable container comprises a plurality of spaced vertical pillars each of which is formed by outer and inner, light alloy frame members 4, 5 separated by a body of thermal insulation 6 of relatively high compression strength which is bonded thereto, spaced panels 7, 8 extending between the pillars and further thermal insulation 9 of relatively low compression strength between the panels. Preferably insulation 6 is expanded P.V.C., insulation 9 is polyurethane in slab form, panels 7, 8 are made of metal or plastics and insulation 6 is bonded to members 4, 5 with an epoxy resin adhesive. Member 4 is secured to the capping beams 10 (Fig. 1) of cross bearers 11 on which is provided a skin 12 of aluminium alloy or resin bonded plywood, expanded P.V.C. insulation 13 and a further skin 14 of plywood or soft wood boarding. The floor is covered with an aluminium alloy tray 15. The roof is joined to the side walls by a light alloy extrusion 23 filled with foamed polyurethane, and comprises spaced light alloy members 24 and metal or plastics sheeting 24a, the space between members 24 being filled with expanded P.V.C. and that between inner member 24 and sheeting 24a with slab polyurethane. Hollow L-shaped pillars, formed of light alloy extrusions and filled with foamed polyurethane, are provided at the corners of the enclosure (Fig. 3, not shown).
