Abstract
1,140,198. Slow motion playback. SONY CORP. 14 April, 1966 [16 April, 1965], No. 16426/66. Heading G5R. A magnetic system for playing back video signals in slow motion from a tape moving more slowly than when recording takes place is arranged so that at least two of the played back signals are selected, recorded in a signal store and played back alternately from the store. In playing back from a video tape in slow motion relative to its recording speed a number of additional intermediate tracks between those representing the originally recorded fields and at an angle thereto are read from the tape, and introduce considerable noise into the played back signal. In order that the slow motion signals may be read out in a substantially noise free manner, the slow motion tracks, SsL, read out by the video tape recorder 1, are passed through selection circuitry 28, and those obtained at times corresponding to the orginally recorded tracks are recorded on a drum 23 which is rotated in synchronism with the video head in the recorder 1. Gates GR1, GR2 in the selector circuit are opened at appropriate times to pass the required track signals by logical circuitry actuated in response to signals PG, provided by the rotation of the video head, and signals TCTL, which indicate the positions of the originally recorded video signals. The selected signals are passed via an amplifier 34 to the recording head 24 of the drum 23. Playback is by means of head 25 and the signals are erased at head 26, operated from the logical circuitry.
