Abstract

1,139,315. Building blocks containing electrical components. LEGO SYSTEM A.S. 14 June, 1966 [19 June, 1965; 1 March, 1966], No. 26487/66. Heading A6S [Also in Division G5] Building bricks of the design shown in Fig. 1 are modified to contain electrical components so that they may be used to form electrical circuits. The bricks are normally made of a plastics material and may be coated with a conducting film, e.g. by spraying on a metal film 6 or by fitting a metal foil moulded to fit over or with holes cut to fit round the studs (18). The studs may be hollow and may be made of metal inserted in the plastics brick (13a). Electrical components may be fixed inside these bricks and connected to mutually insulated terminals 3a or to one stud 3a and to coupling member 5. Wires may be attached from the stud 30 of a brick with only one such stud (Fig. 4) to a similar brick, enabling connections to be made. Connection may be made between bricks placed above one another by means of a split pin or by a spring connecting with a stud of type 13a on the brick below. Components may also be fixed inside plastics bricks so that the connection is made to the base of each end of the brick. Larger elements housing batteries, motors and lights are also described. The bricks with a conducting film may be made entirely of metal.
