Abstract

1,138,882. Coated corrugated sheet. H. G. F. WALDEN. 20 April, 1967 [6 Oct., 1966], No. 44753/66. Heading B2K. A prefabricated building component comprises a generally substantially planar corrugated sheet e.g. steel, asbestos or aluminium sheet, having a layer of strong insulating material e.g. foamed polyurethane, of uniform thickness greater than that of the sheet adhered to at least one major surface thereof and extending over substantially the total area of the major surface. The expression "generally planar" includes both flat and curved sheets. The insulating material may be applied to both major surfaces of the corrugated sheet. A thin layer of plastics material e.g. polyvinyl chloride, may be applied to a major surface not covered by insulating material. The corrugations of the sheet may be rectangular, trapezoidal, triangular, or undulating curvilinear cross-section. The surface of the sheet to which the insulating material is applied may be degreased, or may be coated with a primer, before application thereof. A strip along at least one edge of the major surface of the sheet to which insulating material is applied may be left bare of insulating material. The component may comprise a sheet of aluminium, first coated with a zinc chromate primer, further coated with foamed rigid polyurethane. The insulating material may be sprayed onto the major surface of the sheet by maintaining the direction of travel of the spray substantially normal to the surface. Rigid foamed polyurethane may be sprayed as a mixture of polyisocyanate and polyol together with catalytic additives, and may additionally comprise a blowing agent. The cure of the coated layer of plastics material may be completed by heat. The spraying may be performed at 10‹ to 22‹C. The jets of the spray gun may be at a distance of from 9 to 18 inches from the surface. The traverse of the spray gun may be so controlled that strips along two adjacent perpendicular edges of the surface are left bare of insulating material.
