Abstract
1,138,611. Spray-producers. RANSBURG ELECTRO-COATING CORP. 20 Jan., 1966 [20 Oct., 1964], No. 42721/64. Heading B2F. An electrostatic spray painting device which is adapted to be remotely controlled comprises a barrel 15 of insulating material having a paint inlet port 39 in one wall, an insulating paint nozzle 35 provided with a discharge outlet 40, an insulating air nozzle 36 provided with a plurality of air outlets 48 coaxial with the outlet 40, a paint chamber 38 defined by the insulating members 15 and 35 and located between the inlet 39 and the outlet 40, and a paint charging electrode 17 extending coaxially through the outlet 40. The electrode is supported by an insulating body 78 which is provided with grooves 80. the electrode being connected to a resistor 69 in an insulating support or housing 65 via a spiral spring 81. The current is supplied to the resistor by a cable in the handle of the device via spiral springs 73, 74. A conductive member 58 on the device is connected to earth and provides a counter electrode. A needle valve (56), fig. 4 (not shown) controls the air flow which passes from chambers 43, 50 and 51 to the outlets 48 and also to the outlets 53 of air horns which control the shape of the spray. A control unit (29), fig. 1 (not shown) controls the paint supply valve (22), an air pump (23) and the high voltage source. The device support (26), the member 58 and the valve (22) are all earthed.
