To facilitate stripping of a continuous metal foil formed by electro-deposition on a rotating drum cathode 2, each end edge of the drum has fixed to it a non-wettable dielectric ring 5, e.g. of PTFE, of greater external diameter than the drum. Preferably the rings are pressed against the edges of the drum by detachable mountings coated with a dielectric and serving as protective covers 6 for the ends of the drum and the supporting shaft. Alternatively Fig. 2 (not shown), the rings 5 are held against the drum ends by larger rings and these and the drum ends and shaft are coated with an insulating synthetic resin.
