Abstract
1,138,381. Polymer compositions. CHEM-Y FABRIEK VAN CHEMISCHE PRODUKTEN N.V. 23 May, 1967 [23 May, 1966], No. 22882/66. Heading C3P. [Also in Division B2] Thermoplastic polymer compositions comprise as antistatic agent a functional derivative of an acid of formula where R is a C 1-20 aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon radical or an aliphatic-aromatic radical containing up to 20 carbon atoms in the aliphatic moiety, R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen or methyl and n is 1 to 40. The polymer may be a polymer or copolymer of ethylene or propylene, or polyvinyl chloride. Preferred functional derivatives are amides, esters and salts, and many suitable antistatic agents are listed. The polymers may be in the form of films, fibres and mouldings. Examples describe rendering polyethylene, polypropylene and polyvinyl chloride antistatic with monoethanolamide, diethanolamide, N- laurylamide, propylene bis amide, methyl ester, lauryl alcohol/ethylene oxide adduct esters, morpholine salt and butyl ethanolamine salt derivatives of an acid in which R is lauryl, R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen and n is 10 average.
