Abstract
1,138,277. Overspeed prevention devices for lift winding mechanisms. OTIS ELEVATOR CO. 9 June, 1967 [28 Oct., 1966], No. 26848/67. Headings B8B and B8L. [Also in Division F2] A speed control governor for an elevator car comprises weights 36, 37 pivotally mounted on a sheave 32 over which a rope 28 attached to the car passes, a plunger axially displaceable in a bore in the sheave hub 33 in response to centrifugal movement of the weights 36, 37 such that an elevator speed control switch, a power control switch and a rope clamp 111, 123 are actuated successively at predetermined extents of displacement of the plunger. The weights 36, 37 which are adjustably spring biased radially inwardly of the sheave and are coupled together by a rod 66, actuate the plunger through a rod 75 and a cranked lever 73 pivoted to the sheave. One end of the plunger extending from the sheave directly contacts the speed control switch or switches for operation thereof. With further extension of the plunger, a shoulder thereon is brought into engagement with a cranked lever, which through a rod 207 of adjustable length operates the power switch and rope clamp if the speed switches fail to control the cage speed. Movement of a lever 222 by the rod 207 firstly releases a spring- loaded arm which actuates the power supply switch, and secondly pivots a lever 212 to release one jaw 123 of the rope clamp, whereupon this jaw gravitates into a position opposite the spring-loaded second jaw 111, to grip the rope 28 therebetween.
