Abstract
1,137,680. Protecting transistor circuits. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 1 June, 1967 [22 June, 1966], No. 27873/66. Heading H3T. [Also in Division H2] A protective arrangement for a switching transistor 98 feeding a load 100 comprises a further transistor 94 connected across the base emitter circuit and having its base coupled to the collector circuit so that the second transistor shunts the input circuit of the first when the load current is excessive. In addition, means are provided periodically to reduce the voltage supply but to maintain a steady supply to the base of the first transistor so that load current is restored when the fault is cleared. As shown, the periodic reductions are provided by an unsmoothed supply but an interrupter (Fig. 5, not shown) could be used. The switching circuit is controlled through a transistor 82 from a logic current (not shown) and diode 92 blocks bias current flow through the load when transistor 98 is off.
