Abstract

1,137,481. Valves. MESSENGER & SONS (BIRMINGHAM) Ltd. 29 Dec., 1965 [1 Oct., 1964], No. 39930/64. Heading F2V. [Also in Divisions F4 and G1] A changeover valve device, particularly for the automatic switching in of a reserve pressurized gas supply cylinder when a first cylinder is exhausted, comprises a shuttle valve 38 sealed in a bore by sealing rings 40 and movable between opposed seats 32, 34 formed on inlet connectors 16, 18 which are screwed into a valve body and adapted for connection to the cylinders. The seats are of smaller diameter than the shuttle valve. Fluid passing the valve 38 goes to one or the other of two delivery bores 52, 66 and thence to a pressure reducing valve (132), Fig. 4 (not shown), which is responsive to the outlet pressure communicated to a chamber 148. The bores 52, 66 contain non-return valves 54, 66, Fig. 7 (not shown), and also communicate with a pair of bleeder valves 72, 88 which operate in phase with the shuttle valve and open to communicate the open inlet with the one which is closed, through a leakage path estalished when the sealing ring shown reaches the end of a bore 48. Each inlet is connected with a pressure responsive indicator warning device, Fig. 6 (not shown). A pressure responsive plunger (168) carries a sleeve of red plastics material which is visible through a clear plastics sleeve (178) aligned with a window slot (208), Fig. 3 (not shown), to indicate when a cylinder is nearly exhausted. The plunger may be extended to operate an electrical alarm circuit.
