Abstract

1,137,205. Refractory compositions. TOKYO YOGYO CO. Ltd. 18 March, 1966 [20 March, 1965], No. 12128/66. Heading C1J. A refractory composition comprises one or more refractory raw materials, namely: graphite, silicon carbide, clay, agalmatolite, silica or magnesium oxide; a low temperature binder selected from sodium silicate, potassium silicate, MgSO 4 , bittern, aluminous cement, molasses, dextrin and lignin extract; and a high temperature solid carbonaceous binder selected from asphalt, pitch, and coking coal. The refractory composition may also include one or more of the following: a plasticizer, e.g. bentonite; an interfacial activator e.g. sodium alkyl-benzenesulphonate or potassium salt of sulphonated whale oil; a mineral oil; an animal or vegetable oil or fat, e.g. beef tallow; a sintering agent, e.g. sericite, porcelain, stone or borax. The refractory composition may be shaped and baked at a temperature below 500‹ C.
