Abstract

The present invention relates to a process for producing forsterite bricks using a conventional batch composition which contains olivine rock, burnt serpentine and/or burnt talc in a comminuted state, if appropriate sintered magnesia and/or conventional other additives, addition of binder and water, mixing, shaping and pressing into bricks and the burning of these bricks. The process according to the invention is characterised in that a batch composition is used which contains, per 100 parts by weight of solids, a) 5 to 40 parts by weight of coking duff or granular petroleum coke and b) 0 to 15 parts by weight of ground limestone and/or ground unburnt dolomite. The invention also relates to the forsterite bricks produced by the process, which have particularly advantageous properties, in particular as alkali-resistant light-weight bricks and as alkali-resistant wearing materials suitable as lining bricks for rotary kilns.
