Abstract
1,137,169. Centrifugal separators. MEDITERRANEA COMPAGNIA INDUSTRIALE COMMISSIONARIA E COMMERCIALE S.p.A. 31 Aug., 1966 [1 Sept., 1965; 5 Aug., 1966], No. 38755/66. Heading B2P. An apparatus for removing dust from gases comprises a generally cylindrical casing 1, Fig. 1, provided with an inlet duct 26 for dustladen gas and with an outlet duct 25 for clean gas and divided by means of partitions 10, 11, 12 into a number of intercommunicating separating chambers, and a rotatable shaft 6 mounted axially of the casing and carrying annular members, e.g. discs 8 as shown, for imparting a rotary movement to the dustladen fluid as it flows from the inlet duct 26 towards the outlet duct .25, each chamber being provided with a deflector 31, Fig. 2, for directing towards an associated receptacle 20, 21 or 22 dust particles separated out by centrifugal force against the wall of the chamber. An electrostatic precipitator 27-30 is mounted in the inlet duct 26 through which the dust-laden gas is sucked by means of a fan 23 mounted on the shaft 6. The discs 8 are provided adjacent their periphery with holes 9 which on rotation of the discs generate sound waves in the dust-laden gas, causing agglomeration of the dust particles and hence facilitating centrifugal separation of these particles. Frustoconical deflectors 16, 17, 18 are associated with the partitions 10, 11, 12 for guiding the progressively de-dusted gas from one separating chamber to another towards the exhaust duct 25. The clean gas passes through guide vanes 24 before entering the fan 23. In a modification, Fig. 3, the annular members are in the form of two sets of coaxial rings 113, 114 supported by a disc 112 mounted on the rotary shaft 106. The rings of each set have progressively decreasing internal diameters as shown and, in addition to being provided with holes adjacent their periphery, have undulated edges. In addition to a centrifugal fan 115 the shaft 106 carries an axial fan 111, or a set of blades, in which separation between the gas and dust particles takes place. The flow path of the gas is from the inlet duct 118, through the fan 111, into a first chamber 134, outwardly through the spaces between the rings 113, inwardly through the spaces between the rings 114, into a second chamber 135, through the fan 115 and out through the outlet duct 119, separation between the dust particles and gas taking place within the fan 111 and in the spaces between the rings 113 and between the rings 114. The dust particles of different sizes separated out by centrifugal force pass through deflector openings 124 into different receptacles 125-128.
