Abstract

1,136,992. Pistons; fluid pressure brakes. BERG MFG. & SALES CO. 23 May, 1966 [24 May, 1965], No. 22943/66. Headings F2F and F2T. The piston 14 of a brake actuator is packed by a sealing ring 15 and prevented from contacting the cylinder wall by a non-metallic bearing ring or strip 16 located in a groove in either the piston or cylinder. The sealing ring 15 may be made of rubber and the bearing ring 16 may be either split or continuous and made of nylon, polytrifluorchloroethylene, polyurethane or silicone rubber. The brake actuating rod 11 is moved against the action of a spring by fluid supplied through an inlet 9 behind a diaphragm 8, the rod also being moved in emergency by the piston 14 and a screw-down device 25. The piston 14 is powered by a spring 20. The cylinder closure plate 21 is provided with an air filter 34 and a sub-housing 42 is provided with a valve 50 which seats on either seating 44 or 49.
