Abstract

[Also in Divisions H1 and H2] The surge indicating device of Specification 966,577 is reset automatically when the current is again switched on after the fault indicated has been rectified. Each pivotally mounted flag type indicator 10 carries a magnet 15 which lies adjacent a reed contact device 17 when the indicator has fallen under gravity into its visible fault-indicating position, Fig. 2 (not shown), following a surge of current in the associated supply cable (not shown) which lifts armature 5 from projection 9 of the indicator 10. The contact device 17 is in series with the winding of a solenoid 19 and completes the winding circuit such that momentary energization of the solenoid on re-connection of current causes a plunger 20 on the core to kick the indicator 10 anticlockwise back to its original position, movement of magnet 15 away from device 17 allowing its contacts to re-open and break the winding circuit. A time lag in resetting is provided by a thermistor or thermal delay switch 23 in the solenoid circuit.
