Abstract
1,136,800. Making electric lamps. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 8 Sept., 1966 [11 Sept., 1965], No. 40191/66. Heading H1J. In a device for exhausting lamp envelopes and filling them with a gas containing a halogen (other than fluorine), at least those parts of the distributer valve which are exposed to the gas are made of glass or vitreous material. The valve comprises a fixed glass disc 1 having a plurality of ducts 7 connected through glass tubes 11 to suitable exhausting and filling apparatus (not described) and a movable glass disc 3 rotatable in contact with the fixed disc 1 and having a plurality of ducts 9 which are periodically aligned with the ducts 7 and are connected by glass tubes 13 to the exhaust tubes 15 of lamp envelopes 17. One or both of the discs has a circular or annular recess 71 to reduce friction between the cooperating surfaces, which are lubricated by a non-melting silicone grease suitable for vacuum purposes. The disc 3 is carried by a ball bearing 47 and is centred relative to the disc 1 by means of three pins 55. The discs are urged into engagement by a plate 36 loaded by springs 39.
