Abstract
113,666. Thame, J., and Fawns, S. March 2, 1917. Collapsible spindles and rollers.-A collapsible mandrel for use in the manufacture of seamless pulp tubes and the like consists of a series of segments b surrounded by an elastic sleeve o which is placed around the segments under initial stress. The segments are connected by levers g to collars e secured to a central shaft or support a. The levers g are connected to longitudinal rods i secured to a disk m, which is moved in one direction to collapse the mandrel by a hand-wheel nut l on the screwed end k of the shoft a, and in the other direction to expand the mandrel by a spring n arranged between the disk m and a plate j fixed to the support a. The segments are connected together by dowels c engaging holes d, or by ribs engaging grooves.
