Abstract

1,136,463. Solvent extraction process. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 20 April, 1967, No. 18206/67. Heading C5E. In a process of solvent extraction of a liquid mixture with recycle of a recovered normally liquid solvent, before the solvent is recycled at least a portion of recovered solvent is contacted with an absorbent or adsorbent to remove corrosive compounds extracted during the process. The process is particularly applicable to the removal of H2S, CO 2 and COS, mercaptans and thiophenes from gasolines, kerosines and coke-oven light oils. Temperatures, treatment times and solvent washing liquids, of a conventional nature are specified. Solvents specified include silica gel, clay, fuller's earth, silica-alumina, alumina and molecular sieves. Solvents mentioned include sulpholanes, sulpholenes, sulphoxides, glycols, substituted pyrrolidones and piperidones, dimethyl formamide and amines.
