Abstract

1,136,439. Treating tobacco. G. H. BOWEN Ltd. and D. MAGUIRE. 30 Nov., 1967 [1 Dec., 1966], No. 53747/66. Addition to 1,023,470. Heading A2C. Tobacco leaves are humidified, loosened and stripped from a surface layer of leaves parallel to the laminations of the leaves in hogsheads, bales and the like 11, by a flow of air containing steam and atomized water and supplied by a recirculating fan 24, in conjunction with transverse stripping rotors (13, 14) having corrugated bars 18. Steam is injected into the return conduit of the fan 24 for two sources controlled manually and thermostatically respectively. The loosened and moistened tobacco leaf is delivered from the apparatus by a conveyer 12 past a refuser rake 40.
