Abstract
1,135,626. Sheet metal bags. SENTRY CO. 13 Jan., 1966 [13 Jan., 1965], No. 1736/66. Heading B8K. [Also in Division C7] A metal article, e.g. steel workpiece or tool, is heat treated enclosed in a container, preferably a closed bag, of flexible oxidizable metal or alloy sheet, e.g. stainless steel sheet between 0À001 and 0À012 inch thick, without previously having exhausted the air from inside the container, to inhibit surface deterioration from contact with air at heat treating temperatures. The article may also be quenched while enclosed in the container, e.g. in oil, water or brine. To prevent fusion of the article to the container during heat treating, particularly when the container is pressed about the article, refractory powder e.g. powdered mortar or cement may be applied to the article surface or a Cr-Ni wire coil may be wrapped around the article, prior to placing in the container.
