Abstract

[Also in Division D1] A prestressing element, that may be used to reinforce concrete structures, comprises a bundle of individual adjacently-arranged component elements of high-strength metal, each component element being a substantially straight monofilament element extending lengthwise of the prestressing element and united in parallel relationship with the other component elements in a shear-stress-resistant manner by means of a corrosion-resistant binder that fills the interstices between the component elements and completely surrounds the bundle of component elements, the binder having been cured before the prestressing element is positioned in a structure to be prestressed. Fillers, fibres or whiskers may be included in the binder, the longitudinally extending element may be splayed out at spaced apart points so as to provide enlargements, and at these enlargements metal or ceramic powder and/or fibres may be added to the binding material. The bundle of monofilaments may be surrounded by a helical rib of rod or wire encased in the binder. Alternatively, bands or tapes with plush fibres may be applied in the form of a single helical winding or in the form of several superimposed helical windings to the outer circumference of the prestressing element, with or without prestressing of said bands or tapes. Serrated discs may embrace the prestressing elements at spaced apart points. Alternatively, stud-shaped projections may be embodied in the binder layer at spaced apart points. In a further construction a pattern for promoting increased adhesion with concrete is impressed into the binder layer surrounding the monofilaments.
