Abstract

1,135,486. Interlacing filaments to form yarns. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 28 Dec., 1966 [13 Jan., 1966], No. 1622/66. Headings D1F and D1W. Filaments are interlaced by passing a bundle thereof at least once around one or more loopforming members so as to bring the bundle on departure from the members into juxtaposition with a linearly succeeding length of itself approaching the member or members, and by intertwining the departing bundle with the approaching bundle by taking at least one complete turn of one about the other. It is stated that the interlacing produced is probably due to the bundle changing from having a flattened cross-section to a round cross-section as it passes from the loop forming member to the intertwining zone, and due to a false-twist produced by the intertwinement. The loopforming member may be driven, a freely rotating, or a stationary roller, or a rod, pin, wire or guide. The angle between the bundle passing to and from the member is preferably in the range of 110‹-145‹. The bundle may be drawn at one position of a draw-twister frame, looped about the ballon guide of an adjacent position and wound up on the spindle of that position. Alternatively the bundle may pass from a draw roll, via a heater to be relaxed, to the loop-forming member and back to a stepped-down portion of the draw roll. In a further example a draw roll has three separator rolls, a drawn yarn passing around stepped-up portions of the draw roll and a first separator roll to drive the latter and around a second separator roll, then via a heater to the third separator roll and back via the heater to the stepped-down portion of the draw roll, and after passing around the stepped-down portion of the draw roll and around the second separator roll, the yarn passes to the steppeddown portion of the first separator roll which acts as the loop-forming member. A drawn yarn may be steam relaxed before or after being interlaced. Two yarns of different composition - for example a polyamide yarn and a polyester yarn - and/or of different potential shrinkage may be interlaced by the above method.
