Abstract
1,135,405. Aqueous polymeric dispersions. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. (Ford Motor Co.). 20 Nov., 1965, No. 9707/68. Divided out of 1,135,404. Headings C3P and C3R. A bath composition for anodic deposition of a polymeric material on an electrically conductive substrate comprises (a) an aqueous dispersion of at least one film-forming polymer having in its molecular structure sulphur containing mineral acid groups and carboxylic acid groups or (b) an aqueous dispersion of at least one film-forming polymer having in its molecular structure sulphur containing mineral acid groups and at least one film-forming polymer having in its molecular structure carboxylic acid groups. In examples the baths comprised aq. dispersions of (1) a mixture of styrene sulphonic acid and vinyl toluene which has been polymerized in the presence of ditert.-butyl peroxide and a linseed oil / maleic anhydride reactant, a condensate of p-tert.-butyl phenol and formaldehyde, triethylamine, diethylene triamine and diisopropanol amine; (3) a mixture of butyl acrylate, styrene, methacrylic acid and styrene sulphonic acid which has been polymerized in 2-butoxyethanol with t.-butyl perbenzoate and benzoyl peroxide and reacted with tris-(hydroxymethyl)- amino methane, TiO 2 , kaolin clay, diisopropanolamine, diethylene triamine and the reaction product of tall oil fatty acids, maleic anhydride, pentaerythritol and phthalic anhydride; (5) vinyl acetate which has been polymerized in the presence of ditert.-butyl peroxide and a linseed oil / maleic anhydride reactant, reacted with sulphuric acid and then chlorosulphonic acid, neutralized with NaOH, and mixed with the phenolic resin of (1) above; (6) vinyl acetate and acrylic acid which have been copolymerized in xylene with ditert.-butyl peroxide and the copolymer sulphonated; (7) as (6) using methacrylic in place of acrylic acid; (8)-(10) sulphonated copolymers of vinyl acetate, acrylic acid, styrene and either 2-ethyl hexyl or methyl acrylate or butyl methacrylate; (12) vinyl toluene which has been polymerized with ditert.-butyl peroxide and a linseed oil/maleic anhydride adduct and mixed with polystyrene sulphonic acid or a butadiene / styrene sulphonic acid copolymer, triethylamine, diisopropanolamine an diethylene triamine.
