Abstract

1,135,365. Hollow building blocks. MATTEL, Inc. 28 July, 1967 [18 April, 1967], No. 34798/67. Heading A6S. An hollow building block having flat sides for respective contiguous engagement with a corresponding part of another block at least one side (24) being hinged so that when open an opening is exposed the hinged side being adapted to fit the corresponding opening of another block. The block is made from a continuous body of moulded material, the hinge (28) being formed by reducing the thickness of material at the line of joinder of the hinged side and the block. At least one side has an aperture (38) (preferably at its centre and of polygonal cross-section) and at least one side has a pin (36) designed to frictionally engage said aperture, having the same cross-sectional shape as said aperture and being centrally placed. The block is preferably a cube. Another embodiment has an elongated element with hinged side at one end the other being necked down such that it fits inside a cubic element and having a peg such that it engages the hinged side of the fitted block.
